Plate 12 of 12

Multiple orgasms

After a first orgasm, let the sensitivity pass, then restart very gently

12 min read

For a long time, an orgasm was taken to end the session: pleasure drops, and you stop. In women, though, writing for a general audience describes a refractory period that is absent or markedly shorter. The pioneering work of Masters and Johnson, in the 1960s, established the idea that some women have a physiological capacity to follow one orgasm with another. Reference manuals stay cautious all the same: only a portion of women would be concerned, and the data are still lacking to settle the question. Most often, what holds things back is not a lack of arousal but sensitivity.
