Plate 12 of 13

Hot and cold

Cooled glass or metal, laid on then taken away, to revive sensations

15 min read

On a sweltering afternoon, you push open the door of an air-conditioned room, a glass of ice water in your hand. In one second, the whole body wakes up. That passage from heat into coolness works like a reset: the heaviness leaves, the senses grow sharper, and everything looks clearer.

Cold carries that same shift into pleasure. In the middle of a warm caress, on a body already heated through, a cold touch makes a clean break. The contrast does not cut the momentum. It calls attention back, gives the sensations more definition, and can lift the intensity by one notch. All it takes is a cool object, a little curiosity, and a sure sense of how to dose it.
